Tala Odeh project synopsis

My final project aims to study the motives behind undergraduate enrollment in fraternity and sororities at American University. Using a survey and statistical analysis, findings show that the primary reason for Greek membership is for social purposes and the chance to meet and engage with other students. This paper draws from Bohrnstedt’s Social Mobility Aspirations and Fraternity Membership (1969) and leverages his concepts to compare and contrast existing and potential motives behind Greek affiliation. The results of 115 survey respondents, all from the American university were used to determine what compelled these 18-22 year old men and women to join the Greek community.
